Notes for leaders/organisers
- Trip organisers act as a contact point for
paddlers who are interested in paddling in a stated area. Organisers are not
accepting responsibility for other paddlers or for instructing them as part of
the trip. These are NOT guided trips run by qualified instructors.
- Anyone can organise a trip, but if you are not
an experienced paddler then you need to declare the fact, ask for volunteers
to lead the paddling if necessary.
- All the organisers need to do is identify a
trip/place that they wish to go to, then work out the details listed below.
As an organiser it is necessary to state:
- your name
- and contact phone number
- email address maybe useful but all need to
remember that email only works if people check their email!!
- dates
- times
- level of competence required (beginner, mixed,
experienced only will be suitable terms)
- campsite details/car park details (some car
parks are split into several parts)
- anything else that you think is necessary to
get people to the meeting place and on the trip with minimum hassle!
You would be advised to keep a list of all those
who contact you, including their phone numbers.
If you need more assistance in planning a trip
then please contact other paddlers, via contacts page.
- Trip leaders must be certain that the trip they intend to lead is well
within their capabilities and experience.
- Trip leaders must be able to assess the ability of the rest of the group
and are strongly advised to discuss the intended trip with other 'leaders'.
- Trips work very well if there are other experienced paddlers willing to
provide some sort of leadership role within the group.
- If you find yourself feeling uncertain about the conditions, especially
when you seem to be the only experienced member of the group and you have
doubts about the group and their equipment then err on the safe side -DON'T GO
OUT. You do not lose face if you scale down the plans if conditions are
borderline, tell the group that you are not happy with the conditions.
